But when these two different types of cars running on the road, who are more cheaper? No question, the winner are electric cars. According to a new research, EV costs are on average 2.4 times lower than for gas cars nationally. Saving energy is one of the biggest advantrages of electric cars. Electricity is relatively cheap in states like Washington and Oregon, where EV drivers can have a 1/3 of the energy costs of conventional drivers.
Unlike electric cars, gas vehicles need regular maintenance, including changing oil, machine filter, spark plug and so on. While the electric car are built without the engine and transmission powertrain, these maintenance was removed. Therefore, the maintenance costs of electric vehicles are also lower than gas cars.
Electric vehicles have three major characteristics in the maintenance: long maintenance cycle, low maintenance costs and simple maintenance process. They are more like big home appliances. These features of EV are estimated to have a huge impact on the car aftermarket and future dealer models.
Now, gas cars after-sales maintenance costs is an important business segment and profit sources of car dealerships. However, this business model is not suitable for electric vehicles since their maintenance costs are more transparent and can not generate much profit. Maybe electric cars will really be like refrigerators and TVs. If there’s something wrong with your EV, just find a skilled worker to check the circuit or replace parts. If the battery fails, you only need to measure the voltage. The traditional dealership model may have to reform in the age of electric vehicles.
